Happy Tuesday friends! I hope everyone had a great Monday! Today I wanted to take a minute and talk about something we all need to focus on from time to time. Yep, I mean activity. I know not everyone needs to workout in order to lose weight. For your overall heart health, I do think that it’s an important part of the plan. How do you get started? Sometimes it’s as simple as setting a goal for yourself of working out for 5 minutes or 10 minutes, something that you can attain. Do you have hobbies? Things you like to do that you don’t do often? For me, that was dancing. I loved to dance and then I found Zumba. It didn’t feel like a workout to me. Much the same way that Jazzercise did not feel like a workout to me. These days mostly I walk because it’s easier on my body with my back issues flaring up. Focus on things you can do such as walk around your house during commercial breaks, while brushing your teeth, do some Kegels, take “squat” breaks, walk around while you are on the phone, park further away.
There is so much information out there, but one of the things that worked for me in the past is to put a “star” on my monthly calendar each day that I hit my goal. Even if it seemed small, I put a star on the calendar. It may seem silly, but it worked for me. I figured out that when I saw those on my calendar, it inspired me to do more.
I certainly feel better when I’m moving and focusing on what I put in my body. What about you?

Good reminder! The trick is to find something that you enjoy! I also think it’s equally important to have accountability. It is so much easier to chuck the exercise when it’s just you...but if you are meeting friends at zumba..or riding your bike with your boyfriend, or meeting up with a running buddy....well it’s harder to ditch!!!
ReplyDeleteI am finding that it's much easier to not hit snooze when it's walking with my sweet husband vs. walking by myself. ;-)
DeleteI've actually been thinking about adding something to my calendar when I work out. TY for the reminder!
ReplyDeleteThe star idea on the calendar is great. I feel that weight management is 90% diet and 10% exercise. I need to exercise for how good it makes me feel!
