Happy Tuesday friends! Some of you know that I am a fan of the audiobook and ebook. I was randomly searching in the library catalogs that I have access to through Overdrive and I came upon a book entitled "Talk to Me Like I'm Someone You Love" by Nancy Dreyfus, Psy.D. I realized after looking at this book that it is a book to help with failing marriages, but it prompted a whole train of thought with me. This book reminded me of something that was said to me years ago. A dear friend asked me when I was doing very well on this journey years ago if I would say something negative that I said about myself to a her or another friend. I stopped and thought about it and responded no. I wouldn't want to hurt anyone's feelings. She said then why do you keep saying to to yourself? She reminded me that we do not see ourselves the way others see us. The fact of the matter is that we often say things to ourselves in our struggle to change our bodies, our health, our minds, our habits, our situation in life, that we forget that we are only human. We forget that we are not perfect. We forget we have flaws. Well, okay, I may not have met all of you, but I know I have flaws. I am a flawed human being that strives to be more Christ-like but there are days that I fail miserably. For all of that, even on the days that I fail miserably, I am still a child of the King of Kings and He wouldn't talk to me the way I have often talked to myself. Truly, we live in a very "now" society. We want instant gratification. Things have changed, but one thing has not. This journey, whether just beginning, been here for a minute or a few years, isn't one that is going to click and come together overnight. As many of you know, I have been on this journey for awhile. I lost almost to my first mini goal and life got in the way and I got engaged and married and life changed and I gained it back. I didn't just give up, I floundered a bit. Honestly, I feel like I have learned much by this brief detour. I am figuring out my body and what makes it tick. It really isn't a fan of processed foods. This is really such an individual journey but it's taken me years to realize that.
I hope that no matter where you are on your journey, whether it's weight loss, getting your financial bearings, being healthier, getting off a medication, etc. that you take time to do you and figure out what you need to truly make that happen for you. It's a process and sometimes we take longer than we think we should to get to the goal. Truly, this journey is about process and progress, not the destination.
