A Moment of Reflection...

I'm not going to lie, 2012 has not been the year that I'd hoped or planned for it to be.  The short version is that I didn't work the way I needed to in order to hit my goals.  Am I a failure?  No, I don't think so because I haven't quit trying.  I just have to work harder at it in the coming year. Although in the wake of the most recent shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in CT, I am reminded that life is precious.  I am also reminded that we aren't promised tomorrow.  I have to remember to live today like tomorrow may not come.  Garth Brooks had a song out years ago "If Tomorrow Never Comes" and then Tim McGraw had one called "Live Like You Were Dying".  They are both to remind us that we aren't promised tomorrow and we need to handle the things we need to take care of like making sure that our loved ones know they are loved and not to say things in anger that you may regret.  I try to remember these things because I know you can...

Done with Excuses!

As you may know, I have been dealing with a frozen shoulder since December of last year.  I'm still going to therapy for it.  It occurred to me, as I have this week off, that I need to quit making excuses for my bad behavior  (not eating any veggies or fruit) or lack of behavior (i.e. tracking, working out, etc.) because of my shoulder and then I got sick.  There is no way that I will hit goal if I keep going this way.  I still had two gift cards from the holidays so I decided that I was going to give in and use them the way I had been thinking about for some time.  One of my best friends has a FitBit and loves it!  I decided that is how I would spend my gift cards.  Today, after Family Zumba at the Y (more on that in a minute), we walked from our house to Radio Shack so I could FINALLY pick one up!  I have it all set up now and I'm so excited!  It monitors sleep, how many steps you take, if you take the stairs and how many flights you t...

Friend Making Monday (Part Two)

11)  Do you enjoy cooking?  I enjoy baking more than cooking, but I do enjoy cooking with my husband. 12)  Do you have children?  Yes, three.  Two sons and a daughter. 13)  What are your favorite hobbies?   I enjoy singing.  I enjoy bowling, but don't get to do it as often as I used to.  Dancing is always fun and the kids are used to seeing me dance around the house! :-) 14)  Would you consider yourself to be shy or outgoing?  I used to be very outgoing, but I've noticed the more weight I have put on, the more introverted I have gotten.  My goal is to find the old me! 15)  If you could change one thing about yourself, what would you change?  I would try to be more open minded about different workouts. 16)  Who is your favorite actor/actress?  It's hard to narrow it down to just one.  There are several that are just amazing.  Eliza Dushku, Piper Perabo, Christopher Goram, Audrey Hepburn, Jimmy ...

Friend Making Monday...a day early

1) What is one of your favorite ways to spend a Saturday? We spend our Saturdays planning meals and shopping for them.  Beginning next weekend, the local Farmer's Market will be open every other weekend and I'm excited to go for the first time! 2) List your top three favorite TV shows.  It's hard to narrow it down to 3, but I enjoy watching Biggest Loser, Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice. 3) Would you rather be in pictures or take them? Though I’m not crazy about the way I look, I love to be in pictures. 4) Why do you blog? I started blogging because I wanted to hold myself accountable and remember where I started, but now my blog is a part of me.  If someone said to me “You can’t blog anymore” I think I’d fall apart.  I love to encourage and be encouraged. 5) Share five websites that you visit regularly… ~ weightwatchers.com ~ twitter ~ sparkpeople.com ~ pinterest ~ A few different news sites. 6) If you could have lunch with one person from yo...

Looking Back at the Month of January and the beginning of February...

I have been up and down in the last month-ish.  I haven't let go of my goal of losing 52 pounds this year.  I've lost 1.6 pounds so far this year.  If I continue to lose about 1.2 pounds each week for the remainder of the year then I should still be at my goal by January 1, 2013. I now know what is going on with my shoulder which is definitely something!  I have adhesive capsulitis also known as frozen shoulder.  It has gotten me down recently.  Between the shoulder pain and the not feeling so good for the last couple of weeks.  I have been focusing on what I can't do instead of what I can do.  If I want to hit my goal, it's time to quit feeling sorry for myself that I can't do like yoga and focus on the things that I can.  I can still walk, I can still go do Zumba just minus the arm movements, I can still dance, etc. I can do this.  One day at a time.  I am worth this.  I am worth the time and the effort to get this done. ...

Before Phots

So, I decided I needed to take a before picture to begin the year off right. In this picture I weigh approximate 187.6. If I lose 52.6 pounds this year, I will be at the goal weight that was discussed with my doctor. Today, I have done 2 miles with Leslie Sansone. I am very tempted to go to Zumba, but I'm not certain that will be the best idea. I will have to modify to make sure that my shoulder can handle it. We'll see how I feel when it gets closer to time. Thankfully my wonderful hubby got the battery changed out in my Polar heart rate monitor and in my pedometer. It is time to make sure that I do for me. I found a quote that really hit home with me: "The question isn't who is going to let me; it's who is going to stop me." ~ Ayn Rand I have more supportive family members and friends in my life than not. I have to focus on planning...planning my meals, planning my workouts. I can do this...with a little help and a little planning! Speaking of, I bet...
